LARES-2

LARES (akronīms no Laser Relativity Satellite) ir Itālijas kosmosa aģentūras pavadonis, kas palaists nesējraķetes Vega pirmajā lidojumā 2012. gada 13. februārī.

LARES ir 36,4 cm diametra lode, kas veidota no volframa sakausējuma un kuras virsmā izvietoti 92 atstarotāji. Atstarotāji paredzēti, lai atstarotu no Zemes sūtītos lāzera signālus. To izmantos starptautiskās Pavadoņu lāzerlokācijas (Satellite laser ranging) tīkla stacijas, ar augstu precizitāti izmērot attālumu līdz pavadonim.

Pavadonis paredzēts Lenzes — Tiringa efekta mērījumiem, Tas ir saistīts ar Vispārīgajā relativitātes teorijā balstītu efektu, ka masīvu rotējošu objektu tuvumā ķermeņu orbītai veidojas precesija. Līdz šim Lenzes — Tiringa efekts ar 10 % precizitāti tika mērīts ar pavadoņiem LAGEOS un LAGEOS 2. LARES ļaus uzlabot mērījumu precizitāti līdz 1%. Šīs aplēses ticamība ir pretrunīga.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13].

Bez tam LARES varēs izmantot arī citiem vispārējās relativitātes un gravitācijas mērījumiem, kā arī ģeodinamikas un pavadoņu ģeodēzijas mērījumiem.

LARES tika palaists 2012. gada 13. februārī 10:00 UTC ar nesējraķeti Vega no Gviānas kosmiskā centra. Vega, kas ir vairāku Eiropas valstu kopražojums, šis bija pirmais lidojums. Kopā ar LARES tika palaisti arī pavadoņi ALMASat-1, XaTcobeo, UniCubeSat-GG, ROBUSTA, e-st@r, Goliat, MaSat-1, PW-Sat.
