English: View from the coastal path adjacent to the Kingston housing development in Greenock, on the site of the former Lithgows Glen shipyard. The ship is the Capesizebulk carrierCape Elise built in 2005, deadweight tonnage 174124 t Length overall 289 m Breadth extreme 45 m, registered at Majuro, at Inchgreen quay.
On 1 February 2014 in stormy seas at 52 07N 014 50W a wave struck the ship, causing loss of power, steering and radar, about 180 nautical miles (333km) west of Loop Head, Ireland. It was taken in tow by four tugs, and discharged its cargo of 170,000 tonnes of coal at Hunterston Terminal before being towed to Greenock for repairs, where it arrived on 2 March 2014. Superstructure at the stern was damaged, visible in the photo as a twisted stairway. It was anticipated that repairs would take three weeks.
Information about the vessel may be found at IMO 9330824. A ship can change name and flag state through time, but the IMO number remains the same through the hull's entire lifetime. As a result, it can be useful to identify a ship by using the IMO number.
