English: Chinese scroll with the text of surat al-Hajj in ink, watercolours and gold on paper. Among the illustrations on this almost five meter Chinese scroll are a map entitled ‘Routes of the Hajj’, a view of the Great Wall of China and views of Mecca and Medina, as well as diagrammatic depictions of the stations of pilgrimage and Jerusalem. The scroll also includes the text of the Qur’anic chapter of Hajj (surah al-Hajj). Illustrations have been captioned in Chinese, with a seal impression (in Chinese) with the calligraphers name, ‘Abdallah.
