Why "Zidans" not "Zidane"? And why "Zinedins" instead of "Zinedine"?

Because that is the correct Latvian ortography and pronounciation of his name. Latvian language has some special "transliteration" rules for foreign names and proper nouns in general, as do Lithuanian, Russian and some other languages. --Viescha 11:39, 8 augustā, 2006 (UTC)
