Hey, I wanted to ask - why is there so small font on this wiki? It's like drastically too small for comfortable reading. Are there any chances for building consensus supporting bringing the default back, with a way to opt-out for those who've gotten used to the current size?

Edgars2007 (diskusijadevums)

seems that this was the discussion: Vikipēdija:Kopienas_portāls/Arhīvs28#Noformējums. tl;dr: "what? the new font is way too big". not sure about bringing back. of course, now would be the right moment, people will be pissed off enough about the overall changes, so one individual change won't matter :D

Papuass (diskusijadevums)

I would support having as little customization as possible. We could add how-to guides for people who would really want to have a smaller font size. I think that vote from 2014 with 5 users voting over timespan of 2 days has to be taken with a grain if salt.

Edgars2007 (diskusijadevums)

yeah, agree, that the "voting" should have been done differently back then, for example with "you will get used to it, just wait" tactics.

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (diskusijadevums)

Well, this part is entirely up to your community. You may revert it at any time. It'd be our strong recommendation for your community.

(You could make it a gadget for those who really like small font size. That should be perfectly enough.)

Thanks for changing it, on smaller devices e. g. macbook 13 and ipad 11 in h it’s painful to read.—Vaidila (diskusija) 2022. gada 3. novembris, plkst. 11.51 (EET)

And text size is not a community issue, it's whole nations issue. Think about how many are turned off by this strange readability preference...You can't simply use 24 inch screen and think thats it's ok for 13 inch screen.

Vaidila (diskusijadevums)

No one as community or few people could decide whats is best for 1m. or 2m. people. In other words you are wasting wikimedias resourses, its non profit and maybe thats why you are oblivious to the needs of many people. And there isn't built in wiki text size preference in the menu. So it'sits kinda unlawful if the best practise on all other wiki is the same text size.

Vaidila (diskusijadevums)

Even if I use mobile wiki editor it's still somehow minuscule text...

Vaidila (diskusijadevums)

Why I should develop migrane just by looking at lv vikis text and could use lt viki for hours on end and it won't.

Papuass (diskusijadevums)

I think we got your point.

The change still has not been made. It is in MediaWiki:Vector.css.

#bodyContent {
	font-size: 0.8em !important;
}

To fix it for you today, in your personal Vector.css put larger value. It looks like it is 0.875 on enwiki but I am not sure, maybe it depends on the device.

Meanwhile we will discuss the removal with the community.

How do you want to atract new editors with mobile devices... Ok its the same text atleast on discussion pages on all other wikis, thats why I use desktop on ipad.

Vaidila (diskusijadevums)

font-size: 85%; not 100% even im not such a wiz kid thats I could understand where I could find css code on lt viki or that i'm 100% sure that it will affect my settings. You could say use safari not firefox (its volunteers built browser so why i should not use it), thats not my problem... But how about 11 or 13 inch macbooks? Ok firefox desktop has it but anyway... Somehow managed to change lt viki main design page with one other users and wikimedias programmers help but I'm not by any means understand css codes or should I in order to enjoy free lv wiki just by googling it and editing mistakes or adding information as I've already mentioned that mobile editors text is not perfect even on iphones, so its best not to use it at all. Sorry it affects only this discussion mobile version, its the same editor as on lt wiki. It hasn't affected mobile wiki editor at least 2010 version. Anyway i want to have a choise when to use mobile version on iphone and when to use desktop on ipad. The uncomfortable reading and editing on macbook 13 inch goas back to at least 2018 as I remember, nothing has change since then.

Vaidila (diskusijadevums)

I'v used to see alot of european languages wikis to check for best photo to iliustrate article on lt viki, but I've never seen smaller text than standar on any other wiki. And thats should be somewhere in guidelines not to change it by any means by community. It’s just basic functionality, readability issue not an estetic problem.
